The student will be given different tools that can help identify people with autism, sensory problems and calming techniques. Students will learn the importance of multiple officers’ presence when an arrest of an autistic person is necessary and restraint considerations. TESTIMONIALS

As a parent of a non-Autistic child, and a police officer who has had encounters with Autistic people, I feel this training was the most interactive, engaging and relatable training regarding police interaction with the autistic, I have ever attended.  The reason I stress non-parent, is that parents of autistic children (like the two first responders who do the training), already know how to interact.  This training drives the point home for those of us who don't have that experience, while still respecting and fully understanding our role as police officers, and the concern for our safety, and the safety of our brothers and sisters in blue, while still assisting this vulnerable and misunderstood population.  As I mentioned, the training is given by a police officer and a firefighter, from the perspective of those roles, but tempered with the compassion and understanding of a concerned parent. They are also expert communicators, who are genuine and funny in relaying this important information in a memorable way. Extremely engaging and interesting. Very applicable to all who work in public safety. This also makes us better citizens in our community, off the job, by raising our awareness in our neighborhood and with friend and family.
